The Sorted extension has no account, no analytics and no server. There is nowhere for your data to go, because there is no “we” on the other end of it.

Last updated 17 September 2026. This page describes what the extension actually does. Where it and the marketing copy ever disagree, this page is the one that is right.

What Sorted collects about you

Nothing. There is no account to create, no identifier assigned to you, no analytics, no crash reporting and no server run by us. Your viewing history, filters, thresholds and the titles you are offered are never sent anywhere.

What is stored, and where

All of it stays in your own browser, in local extension storage. None of it syncs. Uninstalling the extension removes it.

Your settings: thresholds, filters, which features are on
The ratings it shows you
Titles it has come across as you browse, so the picker has a pool to draw from, and the IMDb match for each
Any title you chose to hide from your own view
Your licence key
When your trial started, so the 7 days can be counted
After the trial, the day’s free pick, so it stays the same all day

What leaves your browser

Nothing about you. When a title’s name differs between a streaming service and IMDb, Sorted may look that title’s name up with IMDb to match it. The request carries the title and nothing else: no account, no identifier, no history. IMDb’s own privacy policy covers requests made to IMDb.

What Sorted never does

It never reads or sends your Netflix credentials or session
It never writes to your streaming account. No list is edited, nothing is removed, no viewing history is changed
It never reads the text of your subtitles. It only restyles them
It reads the pages you open. The one exception is the catalogue sweep, described below
It never sells, shares or brokers anything, because it never has anything to sell

Permissions, and why each exists

storage: To keep your settings, your key and the ratings it shows you in your browser between sessions.
The streaming sites: To read the titles on the page and draw badges and panels onto it. This is what the extension does, and it can’t be done without it.
tabs: So the catalogue sweep can open one unfocused window, move it between Netflix’s own category pages and close it, and so it can tell whether you are watching something and pause. It is never used to read your browsing history.

The catalogue sweep

The picker can only offer titles Sorted has come across, which by default means whatever you have scrolled past. The sweep fills that in: it opens one extra window, unfocused, walks it through Netflix’s own category pages, notes the titles on each, and closes it.

It starts on its own exactly once, as a short pass after the first run, and is skipped if your catalogue already holds more than 2,000 titles. Every deeper sweep after that is a button you press in settings
It visits only Netflix category pages, the same ones the Browse menu links to, in your own signed-in session
It is a visible window rather than a hidden tab, because Chrome doesn’t draw hidden tabs, and we would rather you saw it
It pauses while you are watching something, and stops the moment you tell it to
Everything it finds is stored locally, like everything else on this page

Payment

Payment is handled by a hosted checkout run by our payment provider, on their own site. We never see or store your card details, and the extension has no connection to any payment system.

The purchase record, meaning your email address, the payment and the key issued for it, lives with the payment provider under their privacy policy. It is the only place any identifier of yours exists
Your licence key is stored on your own machine, like every other setting. It is not sent to us
Sorted never checks with a server whether you have paid, so your copy keeps working without one
This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. The checkout page here is a plain link to the provider

“Email me the link”

Extensions only install on a computer, so on a phone this site offers to email you the link instead. If you use it:

Your address is used to send exactly two emails: the link, straight away, and one reminder the next evening
It is passed to our email provider, Resend, to deliver them, and is not stored by us or added to any list
To stop the form being used to email strangers, it runs Cloudflare Turnstile, a spam check. That is the only thing this website loads from anyone else, and only once you open the form
